THE MATHIAS COMPANIES TM | THE WAY
"It's not the products and services that matter most; it's the way we do business"
The Mathias Way is a method of structuring and managing an organization to be highly effective in a fast-paced, competitive global environment. Based on principles that are both ancient and futuristic, it encompasses all aspects that are critical to organizational success. For an organization's members, it describes “the way we live, work and play.”
The Mathias Way structure is hierarchical, yet fractal, utilizing basic building blocks called triads. Triads are sets of four related elements. When the relationships among the four elements are considered, they form a basic structure of three interlocking triangles—hence, the term “triad.” Triads will be explained further in the next section.
The Mathias Way is composed of four major triads. At the core of The Mathias Way is The Culture. It is surrounded and driven forward by The Business and The System, with The Future leading the way. Each of these triads, in turn, is composed of four triads (which also are built from four triads).
At this top-most level, The Business is the variable component, while the other three elements are considered constants. Many business models that companies choose change over time. For example, products and services, markets, and capitalization shift to take advantage of emerging needs and opportunities. However, The Business is cradled by three constants—The Culture, The System, and The Future-- which anchor and insulate it, ensuring the endeavor’s success.
Most start-ups--and many large corporations, for that matter—don’t fully understand these three constants or overlook them when developing their business plans. They don’t recognize that these constants can be consciously designed and managed, just as one would do with market or financial strategies. Together, these three elements—The Culture, The System and The Future-- encompass the energy of human creativity and passion that add extra propulsion to the Business venture.
In addition, most businesses that develop multiple enterprises try to play the game using different rules, structural features, staffing mixes, and the like from one business to the next. This can inhibit the ability of entrepreneurs and their employees to achieve maximum flexibility in transporting their talents and skills across different business units. It also adds to the chaos already inherent in a company’s startup phase. The Mathias Way simplifies, standardizes, and humanizes the game of business by presenting it at its most basic, fundamental level. At the same time, it maintains flexibility.
